Match report by Sam Vail |
A lazy Saturday afternoon, butterflies flitting across an open meadow, the long grass waving in the breeze. Hang on, that's the pitch! Wading through this long grass come our heroes, dressed in dashing red and black, ready to take on anybody. Anybody turned out to be Cantabs 3rds with a smattering of seconds and firsts to bolster their flaccid ranks. Undeterred, the Renegades entered the fray. First time starts for the Cowley boys, Richard and Jack gave the front 9 a new look. Thank goodness we now have a glut of front row players with the addition of Rob and Richard this season. Scrums and line-outs were working well, however, it was Cantabs who scored first. Renegades came back strongly and it was the Ren (you may have forgotten what he looked like) who powered over the line to score an equalising try. Ren then managed to get himself sin-binned for hands-in-the-ruck. The end of the first half couldn't come soon enough as the Renegades were camped in their own 22, surviving endless scrums. Maybe 10 scrums in a 5 minute period. The second half started with the obligatory substitutions. Cantabs started to get shirty, losing their cool and kicking off with the fists as they weren't dominating as they had expected. The second half scrums were working well, Renegades pressure forcing Cantabs to persistently wheel. It was 'the Glove' who managed to get sin-binned in this half, getting penalised for killing the ball. Cantabs scored again. The Renegades puffing hard towards the end of the game. Cantabs managed a final score in the last play of the game, making the score line a little flattering towards them. "The ref was a blind biased incompetent cunt, and the groundsman has complained about the number of blue and white dummies spat willy nilly over the pitch?" Chris 'The glove' Milne Debuts for Richard and Jack Cowley and Eddie Murphy. All performed well. In fact, it was an excellent all round team performance from the Renegades |
