Match report by Chris (The Glove) Milne

With a wealth of players available to the Renegades, they generously loaned a couple to Wendens, Adam Stewart and Chris Machen. Both having solid games with Adam nearly scoring in the corner for Wendens.

It was a bitterly cold wind which swept down from the Arctic circle, across the North Sea, over the Wash past the Fens and onto the exposed Renegades pitch. Kicking was going to be tricky. The game started with some good tackling and rucking from both sides. The crowd, made up mostly of Renegades injured players (Carl, Richard, Tom, Sam), were encouraging every move from the players and it was only 10 minutes into the game when Ginger Dan powered over the line after some sustained forwards pressure.

Daray slotted the conversion for an early 7-0 lead. At the 17 minute mark, Graham was given the ball in space and did what Graham does, jinking and shimmying around players. It was a marvellous run, ended by a good tackle. Will was supporting and managed to finish the move with a try. Conversion missed. It seemed only moments later (28 minute mark) that JB took a quick line-out throw to the alert Harry who broke a tackle and was through to score a third Renegades try. Harry missed his own conversion. The breathless first half continued when at 34 minutes, Dan picked up from the base of a scrum and drove forward towards the line on a super run. Chris Dunkley, making his debut was in support and was able to dot down for the 4th Renegades try of the afternoon. Conversion missed. Chris ‘The Glove’ Milne was nearly in on the try action but was foiled by a dubious whistle from the ref. Big Rik was also denied another line-out charge as the ball was deemed to have not travelled 5 yards.

Beautiful interception by Chris "the glove" Milne with a spot on kick from the hands whilst running to clear the ball, also fantastic distraction techniques employed by Bill Bob Eddie and the "Handkerchief of Mischief" Owain Harrison.

Half time saw some substitutions for the Renegades. The second half was a mixed affair, both sides seeing an equal amount of the ball. Wendens started to get the better of the scrums, looking dangerous when close to the Renegades line. A nice move down the backs looked like giving Wendens their first score, only to be foiled by a great tackle from Vera, forcing the opponent to drop the ball without getting downwards pressure. No scores in the second half leaving a Renegades win by 22 points to nil.

Some super kicking out of hand from Daray, good line-out work and some slick passing made the first half look easy. Tired legs made the second half look hard work.

"Some great tackling in the center, backs and forwards why they kept coming down the center I don’t know, I thought Ginger Dan had a great game.?" Jay Hall

"Well played everyone a good game, nice to see Wendons come back so strong in the second half. I thought JB put in a good performance and Daray had a good one too." Tom Wykes
