Match report by Sam 'Under a collapsed maul' Vail

A long trip to the depths of Bury St Edmonds, getting lost, getting changed in a tiny room and getting beaten in the final few minutes.

There was a new look to the Renegades with a few new starters as they took to the mudpit they called a pitch.

Bury scored a breakaway try within 3 minutes of the opening whistle which looked ominously like the beginnings of a big score for them. However, Renegades dug deep and ground out some good defense, although buried most of the time in their own half. The scrums were solid, both Shannon and Sam holding the front line against a young and hard opposition. The lineouts were best left unmentioned, Ren not having practiced his throwing since 1994. Alex took a knee to the neck whilst defending deep, but played on, safe in the knowledge he would feel that in the morning. Also Priceless re-damaged his neck in a collapsed scrum, a rubber mallet should sort out his spine.

Renegades backs were getting some good ball although not as much as they should have because of slow recycling. Flora hit an awesome line to break through the Bury line and score a great individual try under the posts, well converted by Darey. Right at the end of the first half, Darey slotted a huge penalty to increase the lead to 10-7.

A few changes at half time and the game restarted. More to-and-fro attacking and defending with the ball seemingly travelling from one side of the pitch to the other with little gain. Ren managed to get himself sent-off for 'retaliation', thus missing the last 10 minutes of the game.

With Renegades legs tiring and the loss of Ren, Bury took advantage and scored 2 tries within the last 6 minutes of the game. Gutting for the Renegades who had spent the previous 74 minutes defending with heart and spirit.

"Well we weren't robbed, it wasn't a moral victory, but I just can't get my head round how we lost. I know they scored more points than us, but can anybody tell me why, otherwise I'm going to need counselling." Flora

"I think there were a few things that I noticed this weekend, apart from the fact that I played like crap...
Anyway, as usual The glove was everywhere tackling biting scratching and pissing the oposition off. Their scrumhalf was a lively fellow which Mark kept under control excellently. I think we would have had a lot more problems if it wasn't for Mark harassing the scrumhalf as he did.
Also I would like to say well done to Anthony where he was put in a position he has never played in before and on numerous ocasions won us the ball and was all over their forwards, for a newby to the fronts he did very well. Personal opinion I think we should get him on the wing first half and put him into the pack second half. He is probably one of the fitter members of the team and I think that his sideline performance can be better used on the pitch :). You are allowed to tell me to shutup, but I thought I should make myself heard.
Alex and Matt was also outstanding chasing the balls in a very kicking orientated game and Alex put his body on the line for the team, which would explain why he is walking funny today.
Great try by Chris, what more do we need to say ! :) Like butter through the hands of the oposition
Darey also had a really good game I feel, kicking under great pressure ( asi believe they were offside more often than not)
Anyway, quite unhappy that we lost it, but that's the way it goes I guess !!
Great game as a whole, although I think we need to have a better warming up session on the start, since I think that's why we started so poorly."
