Match report by Sam 'Under a collapsed maul' Vail |
A beautiful sunny day and a beautiful pitch greeted both teams as they arrived at the ground. 2 debutants for the Renegades, both from Summer Touch Rugby. Stuart Faber and Spike Whitehouse. The game started with a sustained period of scrimmaging. It must have been 10 scrums in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Bury pack were mostly young, strong and short, giving the Renegades front row some problems in engaging. However, Renegades managed to stay strong and even move and wheel Bury on occasion. Then, disaster! Irish Tom dislocated his knee and cried like a girl. The disaster was we had to wait for half an hour for the ambulance before playing again. "Just to update those who might have a concern over this potato steeling bog trotter, he only broke a finger nail, cos he's a bit of a wus, after getting a medical reference from an experienced 'shoulder mechanic', bosh slap yer knee cap back boy, yer mended, hes waltzing around in a shin pad made for a galic girlie footballer and can only say 1 sugar in me tea ,'bitch'. But he reckons since hes been in twice in 2 years, got his own bed space, he'll be fit to prop on Saturday!" "In English he's sore but mending and probably a month off with ligament strains and needs a lobotomy, so should be fit to hit Barnaby. Please be free to offer medical advice and support to this poor unfartunate member of the team and be free to take the piss of this heathen, ginger leprechaun." - Nick After the enforced break, the Renegades started slowly and were punished by the Bury backs who scored almost immediately. All that was stopping Bury score more was the ferocious tackling of 'Psycho' Chris Edwards who was shining as the stand-out player. Renegades for the day, Stuart Faber was also having a great game, tackling and running hard. The Renegades line-outs started to work well after some initial confusion with 'Paperboy' Matt Turner being lifted on one side of the pitch and Alex 'Tfm' Moreau being lifted on the other. Beaky had a great throwing game. Bury scored 3 more tries and one conversion as the Renegades were having a pretty awful match. The last 20 minutes of the game was played with much greater attack from the Renegades, rucks were getting hit harder and forwards were hurrying to the plays. The whole game showed how badly we are going to miss The Glove. Debutant Spike put in some brave tackles. Mark at scrum half had another good game. The Heaviest front row we can muster managed to hold a well drilled opposition. Captain Bev managed to rile the opposition enough for some handbags action. Again. "The key word was TRY...." "We did TRY to push their scrum but they were well drilled and strong in the pack." "We did TRY to tackle in both forwards and defence but we were asked too much, we seemed to be defending 90% of the time." "We did TRY to attack when we did have the ball but were lacking an outlet." "We did TRY to close them down but missing Glove and Ren we were shown to be a little sluggish about the pitch." "They scored TRY after TRY after TRY!!!" "This week, we TRY HARDER!" |
