Match report by Graham Beckford

The game against Cambourne was made more important by the fact that they had also joined the league this year and we needed to get the bragging rights.

More people becoming available made selection tough and it did not help that just before kick off Cambourne went back on their word and chose to enforce the rule of only 7 subs allowed.

We started the game well but tried to score from every phase which meant we made lots of un-forced errors. Ball in hand Cambourne where dangerous but never looked like scoring due to good defensive patterns. Lloyd had an excellent game looking dangerous and sharp deserving his first try from attacking deep and constantly chasing down kicks, apart from the one where he said " I didn't want you to kick that one I'm knackered " aaah bless him. When we played controlled phases we looked very good and this was emphasized when a counter attack by Roger and Lloyd led to a penalty near their line which we kicked for a lineout and then through a planned trained move we scored our second try.

Colin went off after 15 mins with an ankle injury and blood ( no capsule used ) and was replaced by Anthony who had an excellent game.

Scrums and lineouts were very controlled in the first half but again we should have driven more putting our backs line on the front foot instead of giving them static ball.

The 2nd half saw changes with Psycho, Wren, Sam and Richard coming on. The first big impact was Psycho caching the kick off and returning it with a 40 meter run. Then the next two scrums saw the end of the Cambourne scrum resulting in un-contested scrums. This shows that if you come on in the second half as a replacement with the right attitude like Psycho, Sam and Richard you can have a massive positive impact. JB, Billbob and Rocka all played well when they came on so the standard has been set for all replacements. The third try was a pick up by Fabio from the base of the scrum which he drove over to score (their winger weighed 3 stone and he only had a yard to go) but the fourth try was the most pleasing because from a back row move just inside the opposition half the ball went through various people with great support and continuity to end up with Ritz touching down.

So in summing up the club has great strength in depth and at no point did we weaken the side with the substitutions and when we play controlled rugby we look very good but if we try and throw the ball about without doing the hard work first we look poor. Well done everyone keep it up.
