Match report by John Bateson

A curates egg.

So what the heck is a curates egg? (Hint. Maybe we should all bring one as taxation next game?)

Not sure so start again.

With our league fixture away at Royston cancelled, 'Gades travelled to the posh end of town to 'we still have to play them twice in the
league opponents' Shelford. This, after all is the place where the 1sts eat steak upstairs and some people still wear Barbour jackets.
And only one Porsche in the car park. Blimey - there's a sign of the times.

This was a strange game. With 'Gades rolling over Shelford with what looks like a runaway score of 7 tries to 2, it looked one-sided. Yet
for long periods the game was glued to the middle third of the field and was a scrappy affair, at least three tries coming from turnovers
or mistakes by the home side.

Gades were off with a flier with tries from Darey and Chris Beddow within the first 10 minutes.. A bit quicker than that Porsche then.
After that the game settled. It's hard to say whether we relaxed after the easy start or what. Either way, Shelford came back into the
game through a combination of our indiscipline, their occasional runs and an OK forwards game. One try resulted so 5-14 at half time.

Renegades have enviable strength in depth for this level of rugby and we able to bring on Fabio, El cap and Lloydeee to steady things.

Thereafter Gades controlled possession, if not territory. Tries came from Glove - a fully 60m breakaway gallop up the left touchline
Chris B (again) after a nice line out move and break by El Cap Daray (2) ... sorry D, I can't remember a thing about these and Matt (PaperBoy) Turner who rounded the Shelford defence then nearly ran into the car park before touching the ball down.

Shelford pulled one back midway through the second half.

So a mixed performance. Some really good bits, some things to work on.

And that curate's egg....
