Match report by Graham Beckford |
With lots of people away Christmas shopping and watching the Baa Baa's a much changed side took the field but with plenty of optimism. Ely were gracious enough to let us know that they were fielding some of their 2nd teamers as their match had been cancelled but it was agreed that the match would still stand as a league game. The game was very bitty throughout with some very strange calls from the ref but he was doing his best and it was obvious that the side that controlled their discipline the best were going to be favorites to win. Even though we dominated territory and possession constant penalties stopped the flow of the game and made it a very scrappy game. From a set move Will scored an excellent try. The rest of the game carried on as a bitty affair and Darey kicked a couple of goals to keep as two scores ahead and Ely never really pressured our line. Lloyd was fantastic in attack and defence leading the backs well which resulted in the man of the match and I escaped the doughnut of the match after a dummy kick went drastically wrong when Richard hoofed the ball from the opposition half towards our own posts and the reason he gave was he was trying to chip it into his hands. Wednesday night's training could be interesting. Quotes! "Nice one gents! "Well
put Chris. "Well
done everyone. Very pleased to have got the personal try count underway
for the season! Shame it wasn't a more free-flowing encounter, but we
definitely had the upper hand in more ways than one. |
