Match report by Chris (Psycho) Edwards

The Renegades turned up and started to do the usual warm up routines preparing for battle. The Shelford team were short of players so I think they handing out flyers to the locals seeing of anyone would like to play today. The renegades it seemed would be in for a high scoring win or would they….

From the kick of Shelford were on the offensive it seems that the Renegades had presumed that this was going top be a walk over. Sloppy work in the ruck and a big fat hand from Bob gave away a penalty right in front of the posts. Shelford converted the penalty 3 - 0. I believe this was the kick the gades needed to focus on the game and score some points.

The re-start never made the required 10 metre mark a scrum to the gades. This was the starting point for a wonderful move down the left of the pitch with Beaky then on to Fabio to score the try.. The conversion was spooned into Little Shelford by the might boot of Fabio. Shelford 3 -5 Renegades.
Shelford did have some fight in them and they came back hard. Various kicks were exchanged but the renegades decided that the ball was better in the hand. The pressure was on the Shelford scrum on their 22. The gades won the scrum and a fabulous break down the left by the paper boy resulted in a line out close to the Shelford try line. The unstoppable rolling mass called Sam drove the ball toward the try line, the glove picked up and drove closer after all the hard work Ren picked up and scored. Shelford 3 - 10 converstion missed.

Shelford attacked from the re-start Sam charged like a raging bull up the pitch only to be stopped by a judo chop for the shelford No. 5. Sam was not happy about this and started to bore the rest of the team about the incident. After everyone woke up the game carried on Fabio seemed to like having five men hanging off his shirt and dragging them 15 -20 meters down the pitch. Fabio off loads to Ritz who is then forced into touch, lineout to Shelford. The glove plucked the ball out of the air and Lloyd ends up touching down . 3-15 Renegades. Conversion missed by Fabio.
Jay Hall chased down a ball supported by the glove, try renegades. Fabio set his sight and converted 3 - 22 Renegades.
Owain decided to liven things up with a bit of Brazilian head tennis. The crowd cheered but the Shelford boys don't like football and forced the gades onto the back foot. Owains hand clawed itself onto the ball at the bottom of a ruck the referee blew up penalty Shelford. The kick was missed. The renegades cleared up field resulting with a flowing move ending in a forward pass. Scrum down shelford ball. The gades pushed the Shelford scrum back and won the ball. Beaky draws away three players who off loads to Ant and as if from nowhere Mr Bevington pops up for the try. 3-27 conversion missed.
The Shelford team seemed to be collapsing from within. Various injuries required the renegades to supply a substitute Shelford. Billbob kindly volunteered his services and he was immediately put into action. Billbob had not even got his shirt on but he managed to tackle the mass that is Mr Bevington. The following surge saw Flora take a quick tap penalty who passed to Bev and then from out of the shadows came Sam to score. Yes that's right Sam scored a try.Fabio drives the convestion through the posts 3- 34.

HALFTIME

The kick off was into the sun well that was the excuse Fabio gave. The kick was spooned behind the kicker and also the rest of the team. The resulting scrum was won by the gades and Flora collected the ball, then on to Beaky and Lloyd snook in for another try. 3-39 Renagedes. Conversation missed.

The game was opening up for the renegades and changes were made Paperboy made room for Alfie. Some quick thinking by Bev saw Flora touch down for a try. The conversion was missed by Alfie.

The flow of the game was with Cottenham and Alfie collected the ball at fly half and slotted a kick down the line pinning Shelford in their half. From the lineout Ant had the ball with only one midget to beat he managed to tackle himself fall over and Ritz won the ball back. Sam had the ball and only two yards to go. TRY that's right Sam scored again….Bev converts 3-51.

Shelford seemed to of given up playing . Alfie spins the ball to beaky who cleverly switches the ball inside to yes you guessed it Bev. Flora manages to shuffle his old frame up for the conversion 3-58 Renegades. The final whistle was not far away but the gades still wanted more Ritz collected the ball from the restart and cuts the mid field to pieces. The glove collects the pass and drives the ball over the line 3-63 Renegades .

Quotes!

"Good game on Saturday boys against a weak and indifferent Shelford team. They did not seem interested in tackling and by mid-second half we had made them not interested in playing at all.

All this apart, we played our game and tried to get back into the basics of the game, we were guilty of trying to do a bit too much in the forwards, picking and going from rucks too often when we should have been setting up the quick ball for the backs.

However, it was full of positives, solid defence when needed, great running and passing from the forwards and the backs and some good use of practised moves and plays.

Good game which we will need to step up for next week and a good evening too at the old man's birthday....or at his age it may have been a pre-funeral bash!

"I agree with Bev. Lots of sloppy and lazy play from us, once we realised that Shelford weren't turning up to tackle. Can't afford to do that next week. However, some positives including our line out. We only had 4 and caught and drove 3 of them resulting in 1 try and 1 massive trundle (Priceless would have been proud).

Ren secured an uncounted number of strikes against the head at hooker. Beaky managed a between the legs dummy pass, which was awesome. And for the record, both my tries were scored from support play up the middle, not from the wing as has been alluded to. headnearlywrenchedofflove" Sam Vail

"There was so few line outs because the pitch was so wide we couldn’t reach the edges. You scored from standing outside the winger - that happened to be in the mid-field because we daren’t stand that far apart !

Only kidding mate – good try especially the second one." Ren Pesci
