Match report by Matt Price

Some of us wimped out this regular hard fixture at Newmarket, previous encounters with this team are one sided in Newmarket's favour, as they are and were very good on their home patch, however, times have changed and with the "New renegades look and team", the following took place………………

Dressed in the new corporate "Mon Cheri" sponsored shorts and clean and well polished boots, Fabio launched the first ball of the encounter and from the off we made our presence felt (or at least Ant did) yes he actually beat Glove to the ball, with one awesome catch and set up for the surging forwards to start the phase of play which saw from an early stage the great attitude Will had in the centre of the park.

The first 6 mins or so was the "Will show", with awesome tackling and motivating the back line to show intent.

Great play from all 15 men gave Colin his first time to stretch his legs and make one of his signature runs from half way only to be fumbled over the touch line 5yds from Newmarket's try line, great defence from Newmarket, as they slowly woke up saw some great power from them and our defensive line was returned to our 22yd line.

The middle part of the first half saw Shannon's hip flask run out, and rik had already started to ask to go on as his stitches had dissolved and his holes were ready to go, however more great set up play from the forwards to give the backs clean ball, gave Rolando the dream ticket to score against his old team mates, but again in the last gasp of power he was held up and the score remained 0 - 0.

Renegades did not want to give in on piling on the pressure, so they went back at Newmarket and as a great result of pressure, Newmarket only had one option - to give a penalty in front of the posts.

3 - 0 Fabio

It was soon to be ren's dream ticket and with the help of Fabio the pair of them gave Newmarket players a second look at their breakfast!!!

The 8 - 0 score line came from a very good tap & go crash ball penalty by beaky and the resulting conversion was slotted over by Fabio out on the touch line.

10 - 0

Newmarket then held the ball for the next 5 mins and they was rewarded in a members bounce on our back line and some little boy with green boots on ran through to score a cheap try, which they duly converted.

10 - 7

We then slipped into the England rugby team of gifting the opposition of a cheap penalty by some poor handling errors and not releasing the ball quick enough.

10 -10

The half time focus from beaky was to remember to play to the conditions and to their pack as Newmarket were back in the game, some more positive feedback from the older gents in the squad was well timed and everyone new the score….

The next 17 minutes was some of the best attacking play I have seen Renegades play , it was 15 man champagne rugby and we nailed them ….

Our running again was fantastic, and Ant decided to run like a gazelle into their 22yd and stopped and looked for support, and like a working channel tunnel train Lloyd was his wing man to continue the dash across the line to score a fantastic try, of sadly Fabio missed the conversion.

15 -10

The kick off saw a great set up from the forwards and in two plays time a good tight and low pack gave flora clean ball to release Colin to touch down in another punishing try, of which Fabio missed (it was the wind or elevation).

20 - 10

Towards the end of the 17 minutes of magic renegades were not stopping , and Ren got his running spikes on and neatly carving through the defence, popped to beaky and in turn popped to Bev , he then gave Colin clean ball again to score a great try under the posts … of which Fabio converted.

27 - 10

Newmarket then decided to come out fighting and get their act together with some good forward pressure this quick impact resulted in the scoring a good to fair try, but missed the conversion.

27 - 15

Renegades then looked back in anger and got wound up and some cohesion back to the game and ren was set free to score a great solo try under the posts and gift him the points he deserved, Fabio converted his efforts.

34 - 15

At this point in the game, Ritz was prowling on the touch line and ran on and, Alfie ( I only play for 10 mins a game ) came on, and to finish the new recruits was "I have a new hole Relph" and straight into a pressure situation camped out on our 10m line and Newmarket scored a good try from 10yds out and they again saw some creaks in our defence and the conversion was slotted over to make the last 5 minutes very interesting.

34 - 22

Bill Bob got his knees dirty with JB giving way and the last 5 was as tight as it would be against a great opposition.

Gents this was a great game to watch and support some fantastic running rugby but still some handling errors in and around rucks and mauls gave them points and a sniff of a reason to play on.
